A man who went boating with his dog has been found dead, having been missing for four days. His dog Sadie, a Weimaraner, was with the body and officials say that she never left his side, enduring wind, rain and four days without food. Sixty-one year old Russell L. Sandlin had been last seen with his dog on Lake Murray, South Carolina. The boat ran aground, partially throwing Mr Sandlin into some branches. When rescue crews arrived, Sadie was found lying by her owner with her paws on him. Partially chewed branches and vines suggested that the she had been trying for some time to remove them from her beloved owner and the boat, trying to free him.
Although Sadie was unharmed, the loyal dog was stressed, missing her owner and looking around for him. Referring to her as a champion, Warren Dallman of Newberry Country Animal Control, told how proud he was to finally meet her and said, "it's truly a man's best friend … this story tells that better than anything else I know right now."
Although an investigation is under way, it appears that the boat hit the land at high speed and no foul play is suspected. Sadie will be looked after by family members.
