Police dog Guinness showed true determination when tracking suspected thieves for over an hour after a scrap metal theft in Northamptonshire. Police were called after a security guard at John Redden Ltd, a scrap metal merchant located several bags of scrap metal that had been gathered together and looked suspicious.
Guinness and his handler, PC Carl Ellis, arrived on scene and the five-year-old German shepherd dog picked up a scent. The experienced police dog continued to track for over an hour over various terrains, including through a river, finally locating four men on a roof top some distance away.
Dog section Sergeant John Wooding said: “This is another excellent piece of work from Guinness and his handler which has led to four arrests. Tackling metal thefts is a current area of focus and we are pleased to have contributed to tackling this type of crime with these arrests.”
