Winter, the elderly spaniel setter cross who was found abandoned on Christmas Day on a remote country road near Strathaven, was taken to the Scottish SPCA's Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre. His luck changed when Grace Joss and her sons read about his plight and decided they wanted to offer him a good home.
Winter needed veterinary treatment before he could be re-homed but has been with the Joss family for a week and is settling in well. Mrs Joss described how Winter - who was named by SSPCA staff - answers to his name, understands basic commands, enjoys three or four walks a day and waits patiently at the door when he needs to go outside.
Although Mrs Joss feels that Winter had a good owner “at some point”, the SSPCA still have no knowledge of the circumstances in which he was abandoned. Nobody has come forward with any information. However, Gillian Boyle of the SSPCA said they are delighted that Winter has found a loving new home. “Winter, who is around 10-years-old, was over the moon when his new owner came to collect him and we know that he is now enjoying a very comfortable retirement receiving all the love and attention a dog could wish for.”
