A woman from Edinburgh who tied up her dog for two days without food or water while she went out drinking has been convicted of causing unnecessary suffering, and received a life ban on keeping animals. The 43-year-old owner, Carol Buchanan, tied Bonnie, a 14-month-old lurcher cross, by her lead to the top of a cupboard. Deprived of food or water, Bonnie was only given six inches of movement in any direction, which prevented her from lying down.
Luckily for Bonnie, her howling prompted neighbours to call the Scottish SPCA and she was rescued. Delighted with the life ban, Senior SPCA inspector Stuart Murray said that Bonnie was found in an emaciated state and called her treatment “horrific”.
Bonnie was cared for at Edinburgh and Lothian's Animal Rescue Centre before finding a new home.
