When Reuben the lurcher was found dumped he weighed half of what he should. At just 8kg his ribs were clearly visible and his hip bones protruded from his body. He was found last week near to Sevenoaks, Kent and taken to the local RSPCA in Leybourne.Manager of the centre Christine Dooley said “He is the thinnest dog I’ve seen that’s actually been alive. Any thinner and he’d not be in this world.”

In a remarkable turnaround of luck for Reuben, the RSPCA were able to trace his owner and it emerged he had been stolen and cruelly dumped by thieves.

He has now been reunited with his worried owner.
