Greater stray dog numbers generates Dog Trust plea for re-homing

The need for re-homing dogs is greater than ever before, with the number of stray dogs on the rise.

Every year thousands of dogs get separated from their owners, and last year alone there were around 4900 stay dogs in Scotland, an increase of 40% on the previous year.

The Dogs Trust is one of the charities in Glasgow which tries to find those dogs a new home.

Now the organisation is calling for micro-chipping of pets to be made compulsory, in a bid to reunite more lost animals with their owners.

Hundreds of dogs end up at centres like the Dogs Trust, however there are steps people can take when they lose their dog.

While these canine companions did not manage to get reunited with their owners, being cared for by charities like the Dogs Trust means they have a second chance of finding a safe home.
