Here is the story of a remarkable friendship between a dog and an orangutan. The two met at a South Carolina preserve for endangered animals when Roscoe, described as a Blue Tick hound, followed staff from The Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (TIGERS). He and Suryia the orangutan, spotted one another and started playing. Nobody ever came forward to claim Roscoe so he has lived at the preserve ever since, enjoying a special bond with Suryia.
Founder of TIGERS, Dr Bhagavan Antle, said the two best friends enjoy spending time rolling around together and swimming and Suryia enjoys taking Roscoe for walks.
In 2011, Suryia and Roscoe released a book together, entitled “Suryia and Roscoe: The True Story of an Unlikely Friendship” and have featured on National Geographic, Oprah, Ellen and the Today Show.
