Boys Throw Cat To Dogs In Bradford

The RSPCA are searching for two boys who threw a cat over an eight foot fence with dogs on the other side in Bradford.

The boys were caught on CCTV on a pathway behind houses on Shetcliffe Lane as they tossed the cat over the garden fence.

Fortunately the cat was unhurt as the garden they chose was the cats home - so the dogs were used to her and did not see her as an intruder.

What evil boys but what a lucky cat to have landed safely in its own garden.

Maybe they knew the cat lived there and were throwing her back home? But an 8 foot fence? Nahh they were likely trying to cause serious harm to the cat. Mean kids these days

BTW, had to Google an "Alaskan Shepherd". Thought I had missed something. Apparently a hybrid dog of Alaskan Malamute/German Shepherd dog.

Going by the date on the CCTV this happened a month ago. If those boys came from the neighbourhood I should have thought by this time SOMEONE would be able to recognise at least one of them. One was wearing a quite distinctive jacket.

It was a 2 month old kitten. I think if it had been a bigger, heavier, adult, cat it could have been more injured than shaken being hurled over an 8ft fence by the scruff of the neck.

Cats don't always land safely on all four paws from a fall. I've got one here who proves that. Leg broken in two places.

Hey shouldn't you put this on CATSEY?

Yes Moyra, if we wanted to really give these teenagers the benefit of the doubt we could surmise that, because it was a kitten they were concerned that it had 'got out' of its garden, knew it lived there and knew the dogs behind the fence would not view it as a snack being chucked to them!

They almost always land on their feet with their natural "righting reflex", but that does not mean they can't break every last bone in their leg. A very high height will cause damage to their limbs, even if they can manage to land on their feet.

Our cats are fat, they can always land on their feet... but over an 8 foot fence might break a leg upon landing on it with all that weight. Whereas a dog would go flying and land on his side, head, etc unable to control his inertia and be seriously hurt or die.

It was a mean thing to do, and yeah... you'd think if they LIVED there, someone could recognize them.

If we REALLY wanted to give them that benefit, yeah. The fence is 8 feet tall, no way to reach over the fence and put it down safety because we are short teenagers, so we will hurl it over (believing that cats always land perfectly when thrown) and it'll be perfectly safe back home.

Long, long shot there. REALLY LONG ONE!!

The story was only reported yesterday and it said that the RSPCA were searching for the boys, so whenever it occurred it is likely that they still had not found them.
