Stray dogs wipe out free range chicken flock

STRAY dogs have wiped out an entire free range chicken flock at a farm in Devon.

Farmer Catherine Omell managed to capture the two cocker spaniels and keep them at West Kidland farm in Knowstone on Saturday, until the owner collected them three days later.

Mrs Omell said: “The dogs are very friendly and we do not blame them for all the damage and heartache they have caused. We do, however, have issues as far as the owners are concerned.

“The dogs had no identity tags and only one of them was wearing a collar. How can people be so irresponsible as to let their dogs loose and, even after 36 hours not report their loss?”

Police told Mrs Omell the owner, who lives nearby, had let the dogs out to ‘burn off some energy’ on Saturday morning.

Letting the dogs out near a free range chicken flock was asking for trouble.

Totally irresponsible of the dogs owner, silly cow needs to step up and pay for the damage and learn about responsible dog ownership.
