Hunter shot in the buttocks – by a dog

A duck hunter from Utah had to have medical treatment after being accidentally shot in the buttocks by his brother-in-law's dog. A total of 27 pellets became embedded in his back and buttocks.

46-year-old Robert Cottingham had gone to hunt ducks at the Bear River Bird Refuge, north of Salt Lake City, with companions and a labrador. It seems he left his boat, placing his 12-gauge shotgun across the bow of the boat. Kevin Potter, Box Elder County Sheriff's Chief Deputy, reported that the dog was jumping around in the boat in excitement and somehow managed to jump on the gun, causing it to go off and shoot the man.

Cottingham is recovering from his injuries, although some of the 27 pellets still remain. He has warned others to “never be complacent” with a loaded weapon and to always make sure the safety catch is on.

"Box Elder County Sheriff's Chief Deputy, reported that the dog was jumping around in the boat in excitement" well what do you expect with a Labrador and all those birds around the place. Great story, really made me smile.
