Specialist volunteers required to help London's homeless and their dogs

Crisis, the national charity for single, homeless people is looking for over 8000 volunteers for the Christmas period. Among the many areas in which volunteers can offer services, the charity needs specialist volunteers to care for the guests' canine friends as part of The Dogs Service at the Rough Sleepers Centre.

Crisis at Christmas runs Christmas Centres across London from 23 – 30 December, providing single, homeless people with services such as healthcare, sports and games as well as food and a bed. The Dogs Service provides a basic veterinary check-up and kennels and will operate shift times of 7.45 am to 4 pm, 3.15 pm to 11 pm and 10.15 pm to 8.30 pm. The charity is looking for volunteers with professional or significant experience of working with dogs, such as handlers, veterinary staff or people with kennels experience, as well as people who just love dogs.

The charity organises its own official vet visits during the Christmas period and although volunteer vets have an important role to play in health monitoring, this will be in an unofficial capacity, as guests may not agree to have their dogs checked.
