Three pensioners and a dog help tackle street crime

Three pensioners, Sheila Bevis, Eve Taysom and Rita Wright have teamed up with Charlie the German Shepherd Dog in an effort to combat crime in Salisbury, Wiltshire. By running night-time patrols in their hi-vis jackets, anti-social behaviour, illegal parking and graffiti have all fallen dramatically!

The Grey Team, as they have been dubbed, said they were tired of all the unruly teens who live on their estate, but rather than confront 'hoodies', they approach them for a friendly chat - acknowledging that most of the time their misbehaviour is out of boredom - and so they leave all the heavy stuff for the police and the council, who act on their tip-offs promptly.

Inspector Paul Franklin, from Wiltshire Police, said: "We are proud to be associated with Street Watch and fully support it. Bemerton Heath is the first area within the county to introduce the scheme and we hope that other communities will be encouraged to start."

Go Grannies!
