Puppy killed during Aberlady house break-in

Intruders who broke into a family home in East Lothian killed an eight-week-old puppy during the attempted theft, police have said.

Two men broke into the house in Tranter Crescent, Aberlady, in the early hours of Friday while the family was sleeping.

The suspects took the family pet out of a cage in the kitchen and killed it, police said.

The intruders escaped from the house after being disturbed by the occupants.

The first suspect was described as a white male about 25 years old, 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in, of medium build, with a spotty chin and mouth area.

He was wearing a dark hoodie with a light zip and pull cords on the hood, dark tracksuit bottoms and dark shoes or trainers.

The second suspect was described as being a man of similar build and height also wearing dark clothing.

Det Insp Samantha Ainslie, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was a horrific and cruel incident and it is essential we trace these men as soon as possible.

"In the meantime our enquiries are ongoing and high visibility reassurance patrols are being conducted in the local area."
