Dog owner faces jail for allegedly registering rottweiler to vote

A dog owner whose rottweiler was sent a voting card faces jail after being reported to the police for allegedly providing false information to the electoral roll.

Russell Hoyle, a security guard from Norton in Stockton-on-Tees, denies filling in a form saying Zeus, the family pet, was eligible to vote.

But Stockton council has reported him for alleged electoral fraud, sending him a letter saying he must attend the local police station to be interviewed by detectives.

A "joke" which backfired?

We got a poll tax form once for one of ours the late great Benny Dog. No one had registered him even as a joke. We never did get to the bottom of what had happened as they couldn't provide details of when or why he had been put into the system so it was a mystery.

All I will say is sorting it out was a nightmare as they seemed to think he was a real person we were hiding !

My daughter got a voting card to vote when she was still a baby. And when I applied for a pension forecast, after going through all the rigmarole you have to do to get one, they sent it through for my daughter who was then 16.

When I was pregnant with Jenny and trying to claim maternity it was another fiasco that took ages to sort ... they said it was because their wonderful comp system used first three letters of surname to identify and they had stayed the same for two husband! BRA! I had to get into the loft and dog out historic divorce documents!

It's not the first instance of a family pet being registered to vote that I've heard of.

I believe it's called human error!

Nippy lol! Corrected now - it's so you know what I'm doing. When random strange words appear in my posts you know I'm sat using my Nexus tablet!

Julie I have said some TERRIBLE things to my loved ones using phone or tablet!

Keep meaning to look at what I've typed. Just not used to doing that and the laptop doesn't suggest stupid words or change what you've typed does it!
