Line breeding: half-brother & sister, is this accpted practice?

there are a litter of KC reg pups from a very well known grandsire being advertised on a website, the sire of BOTH parents is the same, therefore making the sire & dam of the litter half brother and sister, is this a common mating ?

Emma, a number of show champions have come from brother sister matings, Wowacan Kinsman being one out of a Topcroft, brother and sister. If memory serves Topcroft Toreodor x Topcroft Tarbaby.

some nice dogs have come out of half brother sister mating. i only said about it cos Staffiemad said about her first staff being from brother sister. my point was how does she not know she is doing the same. i think you can get some great dogs by doing this but only if you know what you are doing and you can only do that if you know your dogs pedigree in side and out. you can know that if you dont have a pedigree or just a pedigree that is not from some1 like the KC

In experienced hands the last thing many want to do is outcross, not only do you get the stud dog, you get everything behind him coming into your line.

In many working breeds, best to best is the policy, it is difficult to do this with show dogs, you have to have an indepth knowledge of the pedigrees of both sire and dam, not take peoples word for it unless you trust them implicitly, you have to be aware of illness in the line,eg heart problems, slipping patellas, soft palates, and so on, not many voulonteer this information. Basically if you intend to outcross you must look for someone who has bred for the same virtues as you have. Line breeding is done to one dog in the pedigree, hence you have half brother sister matings crop up occasionally, in time you choose a dog produced from the original dog and carry on as before. Thats it put simply Emma.
