New member with a question???

Hello I just joined Dogsey today. I have two dogs that are spoiled rotten to the core. I have a Jack Russell Terrier that is just love to be held. If you don't hold her she will let you know she is upset.

My other dog is a Australian Cattle dog mixed with Jack Russell. Yeah hyper, hyper, hyper, hyper is all that I can say. well my ACDx Patches somehow ended up spliting her left dew claw from the bottom all the way up to the quick. Only noticed it when I saw her licking her paw like crazy. After a struggle my husband and I were able to look at her paw. I took her to the vet and they trimmed it some and said just look after it and keep it clean. Okay that was over a week ago. I was trimming her other nails when I noticed that her dew claw she hurt was a little wiered. The top part of the split was growing and it was starting to wrap around the bottom of the split.

I am concerned cause if she bumps the claw it does start bleeding but from the top of the claw down. I called my vet again and she will be seen tomorrow but I'm worried about my girl. She has not been able to be active cause if she snags it or bumps it we have to hurry and stop the bleeding....I'm just worried and need some advice....

Thanks,

Shannon and Patches

Hi & Welcome to Dogsey.

Hopefully someone may be able to suggest something for Patches until you see your vet again tomorrow. Would a thick sock over the paw help out ?

I have kept it bandaged when my husband and I are home. I crate her while we are at work and she has torn them off so now only when we are home. I done what the vet told us too and keep it clean by warming up peroxide and water and and cleaning the area and then put antibiotic on it then covered it up. I'm just worried and Patches has been upset since we had to limit her activites. She has just been sitting now with such a sad face. I want my baby to be her normal hyper self again....

Lexi hurt her toe nail like how you describe then it came off when she was playing and the blood poured out but after the bleeding was stopped it healed good.
