Dog's height.

Just recently i have noticed, different breeds seem smaller in height/bulk.
Now is it me, with living with the leo's, or has any one else noticed?
I have noticed it in boxers and dobbies, they seem smaller in height and generally more compact in frame.
Even taking into account the dogs i currently own, they seem to have got smaller.
What do you think? Have you noticed any other breeds?

I agree I met a Dobermann bitch recently and she was about the same height as Meg my Goldie and i found that strange, perhaps they are becoming more compact. I have noticed GSD's seem smaller too,or it could just be that because I have Mack now he has altered my perception of dogs height???? I dunno.

I was thinking if you go on the kc standard, for the breed.
Some just seem small, like the dallie at the vets the other day.
I would have said 8 months maybe a yr old. Going on size and bulk, i was shocked when her owner said 5 going 6.
Even if you take into account the variation you get in the breed, some just seem really small for the age.

My dobe male stands 31" at the shoulder, a bit oversized I would say but yes, in general, lots of the larger breeds seem smaller in stature. I know one Dobe girl who is 8 yrs old and is the size of a 7-8 month old pup, all in proportion though and as fit a 'butchers dog'!

having owned cavaliers for 22 years they do seem to have been bred shorter in the leg and body over the years

The head shape has changed dramatically changing the looks I saw a cavalier at the vets last week with such a short muzzle and small head i nearly mistook her for a charlie

My Dobies are both to standard, but we meet quite a few smaller ones, but a few that are obviously over sized usually just longer legs, but everyone always comments on what a big lad Syd is. Height he is bang on 27" but he is very muscular and weighs 46kgs without an ounce of flab. He's my chunky munky
