Eldest needs full blood tests (update at post 36)

My eldest daughter has been ill for about a week. She was at the docs today and he has asked for full blood tests. She has been complaining of feeling sick for about a fortnight but has been really lethargic for the last week. Even a small amount of activity results in her sleeping for most of the day.She has been off school since last Tuesday and will have to copy up all the work and the missed homework.

He thinks it probably a virus but is not following normal patterns. There is no specific illness such as cold, or stomach bug. Crossing my fingers it is viral and she perks up soon.

I hope all is ok Fudgeley,

If it's been so sudden, I'm sure it'll be something viral - I certainly hope so

My bloods went very low but it was very slow and although I was tired, I didn't notice it so much - it was only a routine blood test that revealed a very low blood count (and I was still teaching disco freestyle!!!

I hope she's ok, and soon back to her normal self. You know where I am

It seems that whenever she gets ill she seems to be very tired for weeks. My other two bounce back after the illness goes away. Surely a normal healthy 12 year old should be able to deal with childhood illness?

I'm sure it will be a virus and her bloods results will be clear. There are soo many bugs going about just now with the mild weather. Hope she starts feeling better soon x

It sounds a bit like Glandular Fever... I caught this (on holiday in Spain) when I was 16. I could barely get out of bed sometimes. Just eating a meal would make me fall asleep...

I did suffer a bit (and ended up in a Spanish hospital), buit was ultimately fine after loads of AB's and rest.

Fingers crossed its nothing serious!

I think it's glandular fever too - I had this when I was in my early 20's, and it totally knocks you for six for weeks on end - some people even end up hospitalised with it (sorry).

At least if it is GF it's pretty easy to sort out.

Big hugs Rach, hope all goes well and the results are not too startling.

Thinking of you all xoxox

The first thing I thought of was glandular fever, or ME.

Hopefully the hospital will find the cause and get your daughter on the road to recovery xxxx
