Its happened again!

I haven't been on-line much recently as I have just started a new job, but me and Jamie are having lovely long evening walks and I am getting my confidence back after my accident when I sprained my ankle...
Today we were going out and as I walked down a little lane... WHAM! Down I went again... managed to hobble home with Jamie, in tears and in pain (me not Jamie )
Now I am beginning to think that maybe I should consider fostering Jamie out, as I think I have a real weakness in my ankle... I love my boy to bits, but I haven't anyone else really who can give him all the exercise he needs... I am also starting to wonder if getting a new pup is such a good idea?!!
Am I just being silly and daft or should I let my boy go? It will be the most painful decision I have ever had to make, but I want the best for him! Please help!!

Hiya, so sorry its being a problem for you, I know how frustrating a recurring injury is

Have you seen the doctor about it ? If there is a weakness you could be referred to a specialist for treatment and advice on a good ankle support :smt001

This site has several excellent supports available starting at a fiver upward but the right one might be able to solve it for you altogether in conjunction with medical advice

I have to use a wrist support myself for the rest of my life and believe me they are not as cumbersome as they look on pictures, [ supports in general ], getting one for your ankle really could make all the difference for you

I wouldn't foster your baby boy out, I would definately go and see a doctor and if its something that requires rest etc perhaps you can get someone to walk the dog for you, even a paid dog walker perhaps?

Don't foster your boy out, you will regret it!!!!!!

On the website above, I noticed an ankles support that I have got, it is similar to the McDavid 195 one, it was excellent when I turned mine over a few weeks ago, wearing that I could do agility, without it I couldn't really walk. Also look to getting some physio on it, as that wuold help strengthen it in the long run

No don't foster him out. When I was born my parents wre told that I'd never walk but just before my third birthday I started walking. My ankles are quite weak and can go on me at any time for just a split second. When I'm showing I feel so daft but then just as quickly as they go I can carry on again. It's a really weird feeling but I'd never give my dogs up because of it.

It's a decision you'll definitely regret!!!! Get that ankle sorted with a proper support, even a sports support one you can get in Boots would do it. Another puppy might be a different thing, but definitely don't even think about rehoming your current dog!!!

Please don't foster your boy out, you will really regret it, I'm sure there must be some sort of support for your ankle, a few years ago I suffered from Carpal Tunnel, and it has left a weekness, and it's amazing how much support a simple tube bandage gives, maybe try a pair of walking boots that has ankle support as well, please try all your options out before doing anything drastic, I really hope you get something sorted out soon (((hugs)))

Thanks guys, I have been crying my eyes out over what is best for Jamie... I know I have a weakness there and the one day I go out without it strapped is the one day I go over on it again... I am thinking that it may be best to get a dog walker in for the moment... Its not even Jamie's fault that I fell, I tripped over a stone I am soooooo clumsy!! The thought of parting with my dog is almost unbearable... as I have wanted him for so long! But I will take your advice, I will go to my doc and get a decent ankle support and wear it EVERYTIME I go out!!
I tell you, you lot are great, I thought I would get replies saying I am daft, silly etc... but the answers have been very heartwarming! Thanks!!

I had something similar with Syd when he was younger, I think he was about 6 months old and when out playing in the field chasing his ball he crashed into the side of my knee at full speed and knocked me flying damaging my knee ligaments. Unfortunately he repeated it a couple more times over the course of the next month or so. I was unable to walk very far or very quickly and was in constant pain but I persevered with walking him myself taking it slow and on really bad days just standing in the field throwing his ball for him. I would be in complete agony at the end of a walk but felt it was important to both of us to spend as much time out walking/training with him as possible. He learnt to swerve around me, I taught him the command "legs" so that he was warned to miss me and I learnt to trust his judgement as the original whack was caused by me stepping aside to avoid him just as he went to swerve around me, I learnt to stand still and trust him to miss me. In all it took me a year to recover fully and be able to walk without pain but we got there and actually I found getting another puppy actually worked well as they played together and ran together giving me more space when walking. I hope you find a happy solution.
