Your feedback needed...

Hi guys,

I'm new to your forum and I am soooooo glad I found you.

I need your feedback on a puppy issue.

I have the chance to adopt a mixed breed puppy, but the mix is worrying me.

The mom is a staffi x boerboel and very sweet and gentle, but the dad is an unknown rottweiler.

I have a 6 year old daughter and a baby due in November and I am worried that the rottweiler genes in this mix might cause problems as I have read that rottweilers are not suitable dogs for children.

What do you think?

Any feedback would be very much apreciated.

Thank you!!

It's really not possible to say without knowing the actual rottweiler that is the father of the litter.

Like with any breed, there are Rottweilers with fantastic temperaments and ones with awful temperaments which usually down to poor breeding practices.

Also, with crossbreeds, you can't predict what traits will be inhertited from each parent. So this pup might show loads of Rottweiler characteristics, none at all or somewhere in between. Careful socialisation, especially with children, might ensure you have a nice child-friendly dog. On the other hand, if the sire came from a long line of Rotts with nasty temperaments, you could well have a time bomb on your hands.

Likewise, with the Staffie X Boerboel. She might be a lovely dog herself but unless you know the dogs behind her in her 'pedigree' you don't know what traits of her ancestors going back over several generations...any of which could turn up in your puppy.

With crossbreeds you never really know what you're going to get so it's always a bit of a gamble.

Personally, in your position, I wouldn't bring any pup into the household with a baby due so soon, particularly one that is potentially an unknown quantity. Puppies are hard work and need a lot of attention. Your daughter and your baby deserve your undivided attention. IMO, It would not be in your, your children or a pup's best interests at this particular time. Sorry if that's not particularly what you wanted to hear but that's just my opinion.

I agree with everything that has been said above, as your baby is due so soon to bring in a large breed pup of unknown parentage would be a mistake. Wait until your baby has settled into the household before considering a pup.

I totally agree with the first reply. Ive met lovely nature Rotties and nasty ones ( like Bruno my local corner shop guard dog who will attack ANY human he doesn't know)-you may be lucky and end up with a nice dog but it could go horribly wrong, and with a young child plus a baby on the way I wouldnt risk it. Too many unknowns in the dogs breeding

Thank you all so much!!

Your feedback has really made it easier to decide.

I think I'll hold off on bringing a puppy into the house for now.

Thank you again!!

I'd avoid the puppy like the plague. You might be lucky and get a dog with all the best characteristics of all three breeds. On the other hand..............................
All three breeds involved have strong guarding instincts and are known to be fearless. Even if you knew that all of the dogs in the pup's background had sound temperaments, it is still a bit of a lottery to say the least. As I said at the beginning, you could be lucky and end up with a wonderful dog, on the other hand you could end up with a loaded gun in your living room.

That is exactly what I am worried about, terrysibe.

I don't want a dog that could turn on my kids at the drop of a hat.

I am really doubting wether this pup will be the best thing for us.

Thanks for your reply.
