What does snow do?

No snow here - a beautiful bright sunny day

But the possibility made me think of the different words used for when the snow falls and hangs around.

I grew up in the SW, where we say 'it's pitching'
I've lived in the Midlands, where I think I remember 'it's sticking'
In Scotland my OH's relatives say 'settling'
I think when I was on the Wirral it was 'laying'

Is it regional, or just random? What do you say.

I say it's lying, and at the minute we have about 3 inches of the stuff, it came down in just over a hour and a half and it has started snowing again.
