English cocker spaniel question.

I have recently been quite intrested in having a english cocker spaniel as my next dog when the pups are MUCH older. But i have heard that i you want one that does well in the show ring that is best to have a black one, is this true? Also can anyone recommed some good websites that i could have a look at . I have been on one where you can see all the different colours but i would like a website with some more info like character, health problems but one that is just for cockers. Any comments will be great.

Hi Sarah not quite sure who told you it is better to have blacks I think the parti colours are so pretty and far more 'showey' and eye catching than solids, they have such lovely temperament too. Have you seen the pics of Crazycockers oranges in the pics section?. If you buy a really good bitch it should do well regardless of colour (better say have nothing against solids, all cockers are great.. just personal preference )

Temperament is the most important to us having 4 children, we don't show, but my dogs I trust 110% and as much as I love my Poppy (blue roan) I do find my orange roans a lot calmer and more loving!

I know of MANY blues that have done well in the show ring, so whoever told you blacks are obviously biased

Thanks for your replys. I thought that it wasnt to be beleived. The colour i particularly like are black and white, blue roan, liver, red, red and white and sable but i love them all. I can wait to have a proper look at crufts as ive only ever see a blue roan one in real life. Do cocker get on well with other dogs?

Sarah, just like any other well socialised dog, cockers get on great with other dogs

Also at the few shows that I have been to to support a few freinds it's the solids and the blue roans seem to do as well as each other, I have a blue roan and a black and tan, the black and tan never seem to do well in the ring although they are very beautiful.
