How do I get into CANINE behaviour

Please put this in the relevant section - I haven't got a clue

This is really hard but after one semester of French I really don't think it's for me...

When I think about it, it really appeals to me but then I think about it some more and I'm just not enjoying it so it's really, really hard getting motivated and actually doing the work.

I feel myself leaning more and more towards canine behaviour and training which I wanted to do after my French degree anyway.

I can only find animal behaviour courses in my area and wondered if you can actually do a canine behaviour course or whether you have to do animal behaviour and then go onto specialise in canine behaviour...

Anyone?

I know knottybabe, thanks. I have read the books etc. but I want to do a course that is properly recognised so need to know which one I should actually be doing. I'd also like to do it at uni if at all possible. I'd rather not do one from home if possible because I'm not very good at motivating myself... and need somewhere I can go to get help/support.

Why don't you search out some good canine behaviour specialists and ask them how they did it and what they'd recommend?

I'm sure they would be able to give you some pointers about the best way to go about it. Theres nothing worse than signing up for a course then realising its not for you or that there was a better one for the job.

I'd suggest checking out the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors website http://www.apbc.org.uk/ and the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour http://asab.nottingham.ac.uk/index.php

Anyone can set themselves up and call themselves an animal behaviourist - these organisations provide professional recognition for suitably qualified/experienced people. I would suggest a degree in animal behaviour would be a good start. I think there are a lot of short courses and correspondence courses out there that might be very interesting to do, but aren't really going to qualify you to offer professional services.
