WE'VE DONE IT!!!! (longish)
Well, today we had the last training session of the year. I had gone fully prepared for a hardish training (tracking, ect.), but when we when it turned out to be a fun handler & dog competition.
It was very fun for both of us, and we had a really good time. Tamino did really well at some of the exercises.
BUT, now for the good bit........
After it was all done I still had an hour to spend before my dad came to pick me up. So I asked one of the other owners who had a dog the same age at Tamino (Cora a 7 month old Bernese bitch) if she would like to go for a walk. As the area was uninhabited and rather free of cars I decided I would take the plunge and let Tamino off lead for the first time in 3 months.
He was wonderful!!
I called him about 10 times to me then let him free again. He came every time!
Well him and Cora had a great time playing. And Cora's owner and me had a great time talking. For the first time in a long while Tamino is actually knackered.
He rolled in so much yuckky stuff (dung of all sorts
) then jumped up on me that I had to shower both of us when we got home.
So, all those hours working on the long line in all places, and recalls in the garden & house, and recalls just from the end of the lead everywhere at all times, and all the fuss and games and sausages that were given him when he came have finally payed off.
I know its only once, but I think we've cracked it.
Thanks SB, your advice on working on the long line really helped.
And thanks everyone else, just for being there.
