New Puppy

Hi,
We just adopted mixed breed puppy and all we know is she might be a collie mix. She is about a year old and 28 lbs. She is very quiet and hardly barks. She is not hyper, except when she lays down and then pounces on our golden. She also tries to run once in awhile when on the leash. She walks in the water, but that's it. Don't know if she will ever swim. Loves toys but not sticks. Very alert to everything, but as I said rarely barks and just sits and stares alot. I would love to know what breeds she is. Dna test too expensive. Any ideas?

Hello Kathy your puppy is lovely.
I wouldn't bother what breed mix she is, just enjoy her.

Even if you know the mix it won't necessarily give an indication of her traits because she could have inherited some from one breed or a mix of breeds while resembling another.

At least I would have some idea of traits.to expect, even if it's some from each breed. I'm also curious what breeds make up her fox type look with the bushy tail and where her color comes from. Anyone have any ideas? Possibly part border collie??? Anyone see anything else?

Kelpie cross collie maybe. It does help sometimes to know what breeds but just treat her as a new pup and expect all the things that they throw at you to start with especially as she has come from an unknown background. How long have you had her?

We'v had her for almost 2 weeks. I'm just very curious what breeds she is, what her personality might be and where her looks come from, since i've never seen a dog that looks like her. More ideas?

My first thought is definitely collie, border collie. Not sure what else though. Some mixes can look like other breeds and it can get confusing. She is a beautiful dog!

Ok, now I definitely need to know what breeds she is. We have been up north at our cabin with her for a few days now and somehow she got off the long rope she was tied to.
Our cabin is on a hill and the yard slopes down a hill to a big yard by the lake and there are a bit of woods between the neighbors. She was in the water a bit, as far as the rope would let her. When she realized she wasn't tied up, she took off like a bat out of hell up through the woods and we lost her for half an hour , until our daughter saw her in the woods and somehow got her to stop and grabbed her. I've seen both puppies and adult dogs run, but she must have something fast in her. If she is part border collie, I don'the think border collies run THAT fast, do they? I know she still has puppy energy in her,, but really, that fast? Anyone ever deal with a runner? Will it be possible to train her to stay in the yard without a shock collar? Will she always have to be tied up outside? I don't want to have to tie her up her whole life.(Our golden retreiver never needs to be tied up). I had no idea she was a runner when we adopted her. Can this be dealt with with training or should we take her back and tell them we can'talk handle her?
