Pereg and her monkeys.

In September last year I posted a photo of Pereg with two of her monkeys in her mouth Where is my other monkey?

In November last year I posted a thread Strange dog describing her picking up one or more of her monkeys and wandering about making very quiet [and muffled] eep eep whimpering sounds.

It has taken me all this time to realise that once she has had her [supposed] final meal [she sometimes comes back and asks for more] she wants the door closed, her tether unclipped, and she wants to take her monkeys [and sometimes her giraffe or her honking duck] to bed.

So I close the door, unclip her tether, and she then wanders around the bungalow, leaving monkeys/giraffe/duck/whatever either on the bed or scattered around. And then she comes back here and flonks down beside my chair.

Oh Pereg, nutty as you are, it is impossible not to love you!

Pereg is gentle. She is not always well behaved but she is gentle. A few weeks back she bit me when I went to take the oilcloth away on which she has her bone meals, but she did not mean to hurt me. She probably had no idea why she did not want me to take it but I have to understand and accept that she has crossed wires in her brain.

But she is Pereg - the gentle and lovable Pereg that she is 99% of the time, and I treasure the photographs I manage to take at those times. Because those are the times that I forget that she is not like other dogs.

I do not know - do dogs have a soul? I like to think they do, just as I like to think that Pereg has a reason for taking her monkeys to bed.

Pereg looks so pleased with her 'prizes ' Malka
Chloe is just the same and makes me laugh rooting around in her to box for a particular squeaky animal then carrying it off and getting another.

The dogs are endlessly entertaining to watch aren't they .
