Hello Liz and welcome

How many meals are you feeding at the moment.

Bakers is not a food I would use myself , if you read the content and compare it with other foods you will see why.
There are many other better dog foods available.

Hello and welcome!

My pair always try to tuck in to whatever dog food is out when we go visiting; i think thats more novelty and opportunity rather than preferring the food
(food always tastes better off someone elses plate haha!)

Like Mini says, Bakers doesnt seem to be the best food. Its full of all kinds of odd things. My old dog ate it for a while; we only realised how hyper it made him after we switched to a 'better' food!

My pair now eat wainwrights trays and absolutely love it - though they are small breeds... for a leonberger it could get pretty expensive!

This website is pretty useful for checking out different foods (the 'advanced search' bit especially): http://www.whichdogfood.co.uk/

Both Iams and Bakers are horrible.
Bakers is one of the worst...
The ingredients in Bakers Puppy are all anonymous, terrible stuff, not even one named ingredient: Cereals (25% ), Meat and animal derivatives ( 26% meat in the chunk, 4% beef in the brown kernels), Vegetable protein extracts, Oils & fats, Various sugars, Derivatives of vegetable origin, Minerals, Vegetables ( 4% vegetable in the green & yellow kernels).
50% + carbohydrates.

Iams puppy not much better containing bad ingredients like Corn Meal, Chicken By-Product Meal, Ground Whole Grain Sorghum, Dried Beet Pulp, Fish Oil.

The best by far is Orijen Puppy, 80% meat, grain-free, no fillers or by-products, with 13 human-grade, named not anonymous fish/meat ingredients, whole eggs, in a total different league than Iams & Bakers.

Another good option at a good price is csj....my dog has tried some of the best and most expensive and I can't fault this brand.

http://www.csjk9.com/productcart/pc/...=6&pageStyle=P

This site give you loads of info and access to free samples.....and you don't have to always order from the site, there are stockists all over the country

My girl loves Bakers but I wouldn't consider it a realistic option for a well balanced diet......do use the soft ones a training treats.....but not too many.

Junk! I read somewhere that food additives could be the problem, I have a 5 months old female puppy,so now i feed her that, the problem seems much better.

I will echo what the others have said re: Bakers and for a large breed like a Leo you need a good quality lowish protein food to avoid rapid growth and damage to the joints.

http://www.ncleos.com/Diet.html
I have googled for a guide for protein levels and it seems the recommended protein intake should not be above 24%.
Especially while growing so if like my breed the Bernese till at least 18 months you need a slow rapid growth till the growth plates close which is around 18 months for Berners so not sure about Leo's it is going to be around the same or maybe a bit longer as they are slightly larger than Bernese.
Exercise can be free running for the muscles but they can self regulate so they can lay down and rest if tired not to much on lead pavement pounding if you have to keep it to a minimum and let them rest f they need too and don't overdo it. There is a 5 minute rule with large and giant breeds so say at 6 months they can have up to 30 minutes daily for exercise. If free running it can be longer as said because they can self regulate and slow down or rest completely if showing signs of this it is probably best to start making your way back home slowly then.
Also do not let them rough house with dogs they can damage their joints very quickly especially the shoulders i they go slamming into or others dogs go slamming into them. They do need to socialise and play but under strict supervision while growing.
Sorry if I have repeated what you already know.
We do have a Leo owner on here hopefully she will see this and give you some tips re: feeding etc.,

Hi its high in sugar and fat,try James Wellbeloved, but your pup might prefer wet food, and thats why he likes Bakers,so find a tinned food like Butchers Tripe,at least as your puppy is growing,I usually give them what they like, just to keep them eating, because puppies canbe well one minute and can go down very fast.Goats milk is also good,Chicken and rice (my dog is intolerant of chicken) but keep trying differant things, until he is older, because if they do go off there food, itis very hard to get them to eat,and you dont want a dog who becomes fussy about food so let them try anything within reason,PetsatHome have free samples of most of the food they carry,so will your vet.Crystalgirl

Personally I wouldn't keep changing food as that is a sure way to upset the immature digestive system plus I would think it would be more likely to make a dog into a fussy eater. Puppies don't need milk either.

Bakers is full of rubbish and colours so I wouldn't feed that. Try and find a good quality brand with an option for large breeds, preferably gluten free. My own favourite is Arden Grange.

Good luck - it's a bit of a minefield out there!
