Toys for Dogs

I'm currently putting Ivan on a tie out outside (always supervised) to let him move around more freely and get some energy out. I'm doing it this way for now because he gets overstimulated and begins to nip at my heels, arms and hands. Sometimes too hard. This way if he begins to behave like this, I can easily move out of range. I'm hoping he'll eventually understand that his behavior results in no more interaction with me.

I also put a line up higher in the tree and was hoping to attach a toy that hangs down for him to play with. I'm wanting to have him jump around to play with it to get some energy out.

Any toy suggestions?

I would look to calming him rather than running the energy off. Stopping him nipping is not that difficult without putting him on a line.

Ivan is a special case. He can't be treated like other stable dogs because of his past. Try getting a 100lbs dog that was abused and has trust issues to calm down from overstimulation. Not an easy thing to do. He's just over a year, so he needs to get his physical exercise just as much as the mental exercises.

If what he needs is physical exercise - my suggestion is to walk him more and for longer. If he needs mental exercise there will be no better ones than those that involve you too. Leaving him to amuse himself is not the same at all.

Have to agree with calming, more exercise and toys like stuffed kongs ect also you don't want to be encouraging him to jump up this will put to much strain on his joints and will lead to permanant damage
