5 live discussion regarding dogs

so the call to muzzle all dogs when outdoors would really have helped with yesterdays terrible news, from what i read most of these extremely serious dog attacks happen in the owners homes so i fail to see the benefit of muzzles as a general rule.

I have two very friendly girls now, I think muzzling them would be ridiculous. Even when I had unfriendly quite vicious dogs I never muzzled as I never allowed them a chance to bite anyone. It's a responsibility having a dog and time everyone took it seriously with out knee jerk reactions that result in daft legislation that just makes a lot of people and animals miserable.

I agree, but this type of hysteria will always surface when this happens.

The thought of being obliged to muzzle my Tibetan Spaniel makes me laugh!

She's smaller than Sashi my cat, very friendly and more likely to lick you to death than savage you!

Lol the idea of pound and a half Betty being muzzled makes me laugh too, not sure they even make muzzles that small - she has a ferret harness as dog and puppy harnesses are too big.

Yesterday's tragedy is totally unrelated to the call to muzzle when outdoors so how it would lend any support to that call is beyond the realms of reason.

It's a kneejerk reaction to that poor girls horrible death.
Muzzling all dogs outdoors won't stop deadly attacks in the home, which is where most happen. It's the irresponsible owners at fault not the dogs.
I muzzle Jess when we're out because she has fear/aggression and because she is a rescue dog I have no idea of her history. She is generally a big softie but won't stand for other dogs getting in her face rudely.

Hi I agree, because if a dog wears a muzzle, people are always on their guard, and you give a dog a bad name crystalgirl
