Age for changing to adult from puppy food?

As the title suggests........what age to change to adult food?
The boys are 8 months now, and weigh approx 2kg each.

Most foods suggest change them at 1 year, but some suggest 6-8 months.

Does it actually matter?

I actually change to adult food quite early - 5 months. I usually switch them to a working food. I never did with Jim though, as he wouldn't touch it and just ate what the others ate which was a maintainance one and I think he was actually younger than 5 months as he's only 8 months and I'm sure it's been longer than 3 months.

I have been doing this for 8 years and never had a problem with it.

It's hard to know what's best, but after looking into it I ended up changing over to adult food at around seven months when he'd finished the last of his puppy kibble This was with a large pup though.

Rosie is 20 weeks now and has a couple of week's worth of puppy food left. After that, I'm putting onto adult. If she were a large breed dog, I'd probably keep her on the puppy a little longer.

Anywhere between 9 months and one year, depending on when they finish the junior kibble.

ive never had this issue because mine are on raw so all fed the same..

i think the guideline is 9 months+. but ive never been one to believe in it, i think its a money making ploy, after all, feeding raw doesnt have different life stage food, dogs years ago didnt have life stage foods etc

Personally with my last 2 puppies I never fed them puppy kibble, just strait onto adult so never had the issue of switching foods

I have large breed puppies so always changed them over between 9 and 12 months depending on how long the bag lasted!

I think it depends on the breed and the food. I use JW and they say smaller breeds can go onto adult at around 6 months, larger one's stay on puppy or junior for longer.
