Newbie (walking 5 month old pups up Ben Nevis)

Hi folks, the wife & i are the proud owners of 2 springer spaniels, both boys aged 5 months. Q... are they too young for a walk up Ben Nevis ?

HI Soapy welcome to Dogsey.

For me the answer would be yes the puppies are too young.

I would not expect a toddler to walk up a mountain and I would give the same consideration to a puppy.

Exercise is excellent but little and often would be my suggestion for any puppy.

Yes your puppies are far too young for such an expedition, this time next year, no problem.

Hello Soapy

My two working cockers are 6 months old at the moment, and I won't be taking them when I climb Nevis next month.

If you wait until next spring/summertime, it will be fine, and I might even see you there!

We waited till our girl was 2 to start big hill walks, mainly down to her breed and their known joint problems, didn't want to take any risks. She's been up them all and loves it, really comes alive. She's going up ben nevis this saturday actually with hubby, for the first time!
