Not a new pet, just staying with us for a while

I was brought this little fellow yesterday by a friend, their cat had brought two inside to them, sadly one passed away several hours afterwards , possible due to infection, I know he is not out of the woods yet , but I will try my best by him , over the years I have hand reared numerous birds & animals, but this little sparrow is the smallest yet, I have called him Jack, then I suppose if he is a girl, I can call her Jackie, I will release him as soon as he can be independent, my garden is quite the haven and still have wildlife from previous years, who have stayed around for food and protection

Awww, bless him, poor little sod

We raised one from that age, a few Years ago. Hours and hours of hard work feeding blended seed mixtures, worms and grubs and he nearly made it to adulthood before dying one night

Best of luck!

Chris

Thanks Chris, sadly a lot of them don't make it, I have had some success, but never with one as small as a sparrow

We've tried a few over the Years, and never had any luck. We very much try to leave them be where possible and hope the parents can deal with them, but sometimes it's just too much of a cat risk.
We had a baby Blackbird that fell from it's nest last Year, but luckily, with a borrowed ladder and my heart in my mouth (I'm not good with heights!) managed to pop him back in the nest.

The only real success story was a young injured Crow that hopped into our kitchen one day!
I put him in the shed, and left scraps and catfood for him until he was obviously able to fly well again a couple of weeks later then left the door open for him.
The feeling of seeing him taking to the air and disappearing into the distance was fantastic

Hope Jack(ie) does really well in your care

We tried to rear a baby Blackbird but it sadly died. My husband was very upset. Hope your little baby bird fares better.
