Grooming a westie-how to do it?

ive been asked by my dad to cut a friend of his dog, a westie. i said yes, i know how to use clippers scissors etc so it cant be too hard.

she doesnt want the show clip, just wants the hair taken out of the dog's eyes.

so do you reckon i should just neaten the dog up a bit? trim its face/feet etc? and give the dog a good bath and shampoo?

If it has been done before, you could follow the line from the previous cut.

Other than that - have a look through some westie pictures and make sure you ask the owners at each stage. I always tend to do this when I am doing a new dog, stand with them and ask them exactly what they want off where. (Usually showing with your hands how long they can expect it to be or how much you can take off).

I always err on the side of caution when I am doing a new one, one woman I used to work for had a motto - I can always take more off, but I can't stick it back on!

well my dad said that they dont want a show cut, just a tidy up and taking the hair out of the eyes. so i will see what it looks like, take the hair out of the eyes, maybe trim round the feet etc. i dont know how much hair the dog has yet, so i will see what the dog looks like.

use thinning scissors to trim the hair in front of the eyes.

use straight scissors to carefully trim the ears.

use straight scissors to trim around the feet and between the pads.

Maybe trim the claws if they are long.

and a bath and dry would be nice. he'll look all white then.
