Wanda ~ Scared Little Girl Needs Special Owner - 2yo White/Black Greyhound

WANDA

Wanda is a 2 year old greyhound girl who really didn’t take to the racing life. She has a white coat with big black spots that is sadly very dull and flaky at the moment. We hope this will improve with time and TLC. This dear girl was extremely stressed in kennels so has now moved to a foster home where she is slowly improving. Poor little Wanda seems to have led a tough life so far and is only now learning what it means to be loved by people.

~ Personality ~
Wanda was at first very fearful and untrusting of people. Since moving in to foster care a month ago, however, she has shown definite improvement and now interacts happily with her fosterers. In the home she is a pure delight; being confident, happy and super playful with everyone she knows and trusts. She is very sweet and affectionate and likes to give kisses. Wanda arrived without even the basic knowledge in human/dog interaction. She is learning now, but patience really is key with this girl. If she senses any frustration or anger she will become very fearful. Once she understands what you mean, she is very keen to do as asked. This girlie only wants to be loved.

Unfamiliar people are a different matter entirely right now, and Wanda is terrified of strangers. When visitors come to her home, she will come round after an hour or so provided she is ignored and not approached during this time. She will then come out of her hiding place and gently greet them, accepting chin and ear scratches nicely. When out in the big wide world, however, Wanda panics when she sees strangers and will not willingly walk past them on the street. This is being worked on daily by her fosterers and we hope to see improvement soon. Its early days yet for Wanda and she really does have tons of potential. She just needs to be freed from this heavy load of fear she is carrying.

~ Other Animals ~
Wanda adores other dogs and we feel she must go to a home with at least one other canine present to help her and give her confidence. She learns a lot from watching the other dogs in her foster home greet strangers and come away unharmed. She very much wants to be part of such sessions but is still just too afraid. With time and some canine buddies to be her crutch, we are sure that Wanda will eventually come out of her shell.

Wanda is a very playful girl once she’s comfortable in her surroundings, and absolutely loves to play with other dogs. Having another similarly aged dog would be ideal for this girl as she lives to play and can pester older dogs if they’re not interested. Wanda has shown no malice to the cats she has met so far so may be cat friendly. This will be tested more thoroughly before she can be deemed as suitable to live with cats.

~ In the Home ~
Wanda is very well behaved in her foster home and doesn’t cause any trouble. She is housetrained, not destructive and is ok to be left with other dogs for company. She sleeps soundly through the night though is an early bird, liking to wake everyone up at 6am! Routine is important to this girl and she can get a bit anxious if things change.

Wanda will need a special someone who will give her the time she needs to help her get over her fears. She is a young girl yet with plenty to learn and it will be such a rewarding experience to gradually show this girl that the big world out there isn’t as scary as she thinks.

~ Out and About ~
Wanda has potential to be a beautifully mannered girl when out on walks. She walks very well on the lead and will only pull when she gets scared. She is quite energetic and will hopefully soon start to enjoy her walks. She is fine with passing other animals, including cats, but if she sees people coming her way she will try very hard to get away from them. She can go into a full panic if they get too close to her so must be walked with both a harness and a collar for now. There is no aggression in this dear, just a solid wall of fear.

Wanda is a very sweet little girl. She desperately wants to be loved but isn’t always brave enough. She will be an absolute delight for the family that are prepared to give her time to get to know them.

Wanda is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her.
