I use the Halti double ended training leads. Easy to adjust lengths, comfortable to hold (I wrap them around my hand a couple of times), and they can be linked together to make a longline which is handy! Often I go places where I can let Kiki off but keep Casper on-lead just incase we bump into other dogs and I take a third lead and clip his to Kiki's and the spare lead, and voila, he has more freedom but I haven't had to carry a bulky longline with us. Never had a problem with the clips sticking or unclipping. Plus if they get dirty I chuck them inside a pillowcase/dog bed cover, zip it up and wash in the washing machine.

i also use the halti double ended lead, very comfortable on your hands, they dont burn like the nylon or rope ones do either, which is great no matter what the weather

I use lead ropes for horses. Incredibly soft on the hands and great for short lead work, heelwork, obedience etc.
having said that Zane did all of his obedience training off lead.

I've had a nasty injury form a long line when Zane deided to pull with most of the skin missing form the ring finger on my left hand. Took ages to heal.

I have just bought a softer lead rope (2m in length so a bit longer than usual) for £1.89! Gonna get some more when I go back.

I like a traditional leather lead for most of the time. The Ancol Timberwolf 1 metre leather lead think is a good choice. I also use a longer 60" leather or canvas lead with a ring to double it up when necessary.
