Dougal has been attacked

So this afternoon we went for a run. Just back in, and a bit upset.

First of all, the dog was a pit bull...definately a pit girl, brown and white, cropped ears, hard to mistake. Me being me, believing in deed not breed, said hello to the owner who smiled and nodded (I must point out both dogs were leashed). Meanwhile Dougal and dog are sniffing each other, next thing with NO warning she suddenly attacks him. Poor Dougal had no idea what to do, dragged them apart and seeing nothing immediately obvious wrong with Dougal I told the guy he should have said his dog was DA and I jogged off.

Wasn't till I was further down I realised Dougal's ear was bleeding, quite a bit, so I stopped running so the blood flow decreased and cleaned some of the blood away with some tissue that I had with me. He has a minor puncture on his ear, I've given it a really good clean out with warm water and salt. It's stopped bleeding, and the run up the hill has tired him out, he's sleeping.

He seems okay, and I'll give it another clean out later on and tomorrow.

I have nothing against pits as a rule, and it's my fault for letting Dougal approach. I still feel however, that the guy should have said that she was dog aggressive. Most folk I've met with DA dogs have told me when they are 100 meters away that their dog has issues. He nodded and smiled...and said hello.

(Oh - I just realised what that title looks like - it should say Dougal has been attacked) Sorry folks

Was this through a court order?

Yes the guy went to court, was fined, conditional discharge and was told he had to exercise one of his dogs on a lead at all times and with a muzzle.

The police put out an alert after the dog killed a terrier.

If you google Loughborough terrier attack you will find all the details.

Interesting, its generally very hard to secure a conviction for "dangerously out of control in a public place" unless actually witnessed by a police officer.
It seems he did the right thing and admitted the offence.

You should definately report the attack lore.

I realise that I'm probably going to get lambasted but I'm reluctant to report this incident. The main reason being that I have no idea where the dog came from, I don't recognise the guy, this is the first time I've seen her.

But by reporting the incident it then goes on file if another dog is attacked.

I've discussed it with OH, he's talked me round. I'm just so reluctant cause I hate the thought of a dog being put down cause of something I did.
