Shamus is too big for an Equafleece. Help!

I ordered Shamus the Shorthaired Pointer an Equafleece dog jumper, following the measuring instructions - 28" breastbone to tail.
When it came it looked like a pelmet on him.
I phoned the nice lady and she asked me to measure his barrel. 36". Good Heavens! she said. You could try a 31" but even that`s going to be a bit snug. And any bigger means he`ll wee into it.
So my Big Boy needs a big dog jumper. Not knitted because I`ve had those before and they stretch. Any ideas?
This is him. As you can see, he`s built like a tank.

Couldn't you adapt the undecarriage of the larger one to stop him weeing into it, by trimming it back and resewing the edges. What happens with mastiffs and rotties when they need one then

I made a coat for Tilly last year & I also made a fleece similar to equafleece but used polartec.
I didn't have a pattern so it was all a bit hit & miss, but I did have Tilly present to keep trying it on
Which pattern have you ordered? I wouldn't mind getting a pattern which I could adjust to different sizes, I've been asked a few times about coats but never got round to it

The coat which she wore loads in the snow

The fleece which she never wore - she wasn't amused!!

Wow you are so clever.
I`ve ordered this one..

My friend Ash makes costumes and has a soft spot for Shamus. But if we have trouble I hope you won`t mind giving us advice?
