Poorly Back Leg, not weight bearing...

Hi All,
A little advice needed please!

China has suddenly developed a poorly back leg.

Its not constant, it tends to come and go, mainly in the evening.

Its her rear left leg, she will suddenly go very reluctant to jump off the sofa etc

Her leg goes very stiff and its like she is walking on her tip toes...

Any Ideas, She isnt yelping in pain but she looks very sorry for herself..

Thanks Guys!

Alex
xx

You need to take her to the vet, it could be anything from a hip or knee problem to a simple sprain. In meantime until you get her to the vets, i would restrict her exercise.

this is what confuses me....she is perfectly fine on her walk... she stays on flexi (she always stays close anyway) and only get 30-40 mins as after that she is too tired! (8-9yrs old)

she doesnt show any symptoms during the day....

Sounds as if she may have the start of arthritis, but you need to find out from the vet exactly what it is

we will take her to vets to get it checked out...it just puzzles me as to what it could be...her walk today was 4 pm... only showed signs of sore leg at 10pm.... she had been happily mooching about between then!...

her walks are not strenuous in the least....she mooches sniffing and stopping every few feet....

Hi Alex x

I would suspect arthritis, but your vet will confirm/deny this.

Hope the beautiful China is ok hon

From what you've described, I agree that it sounds like it could very well be the onset of arthritis. Sometimes the pain is worse that others & sometimes there's no sign of a limp. And it's certainly not unusual for a dog to show no signs of pain on a walk, then rest for a few hours & be very stiff when he/she gets up.

One of my labs has hip dysplasia & started to get quite stiff several hours after a walk. But hydrotherapy, joint supplements, weight loss & shorter but more frequent walks, have all helped my dog considerably.

Let us know how you get on at the vets.
