Boxer about to give birth

Hi all. Its my first time on this site so be gentle

My boxer is due to have pups next week. Its her first litter. I do not know what to do about docking the tails and dew claws. Is it a good idea? Any advice would be great.

hi
welcome to dog web we are a gentle lot honest.
first congratulations on the pups.....will need pics you know!
as for tail's i think it depends on the view of the vet alot of vets don't agree with docking unless it is on medical grounds.
i had a boxer with a tail and to be honest if the new owners want a pup it doesn't matter if they have tails or not.
as for dew claws they have to be removed by 3 days old by a vet before the pup feels any pain.
check with your vet to get the info you need but good luck with the birth.

Hi and welcome to Dogweb

At our dogtraining we have a boxer with a tail. I talked to his owner, and she told me, that he (forgot the dog's name, sorry ) had a good strong tail, whereas his sister.. she had broken her tail 3 times...

I would talk this through with your vet and hear what he thinks.

Hi Thanks for the welcome.

I tried my vet who said they would not do either. Why I ask - is that I have spoken to a few people who would prefer the tails removed and I dont know who to ask about doing it if the vet will not.

only thing you can do is ring other vets in your area not all of them hold the same view.
or i think there is a list some where of vets that are prepared to dock but you may have to travel.
what about a local boxer club could they give you any details?
i had 1 with and 1 without and believe me if they have tails you do know they have got them.
as j said some go through life with problems regarding their tails others never do.
