Ripping DVDs

When ripping a DVD for legal(?) fair use viewing on a mobile device, what file size do you usually end up with?

I'm using Handbrake which has an option to set a target file size which therefore controls the quality/bitrate. So, I'm curious as to what size file results in acceptable viewing on a small screen.
