Breeders Discount...

Prompted from another thread. Why is it that Breeders get a discount from some dog food suppliers? And what are your thoughts on this?

I am not sure how I feel about it.

It's for bulk orders. I don't see a problem with it personally.

My issue would be, why should the general public be excluded?

There is nothing stopping the general public ordering from a wholesaler. Then you get the goods for the trade price rather than the retail price. You have to order a certain amount (say £200 worth) to place an order but you would still save a fortune.

Lots of dog owners buy in bulk why should they not be given the discount too. A breeder of a small breed of dog probably gets through a lot less food than someone owning several large dogs, so I don't think it's just about bulk buying.

Its like everything in life , the more you order and the more of a valued customer you are, the more discount and premiums you get..

Also it works both ways , breeders get a discount and its advertising for the company, hence they give a discount.

I know royal cannin do a breeder scheme and it makes sense for them to offer a discount to breeders as part of the conditions if the puppy owners are given a royal canin puppy pack. This means right away the new owners will be feeding there brand of food. To encourage breeders they have to offer them a reason to do this so hence the discount, its the carrott LOL

From an owners point of view i understand that some people get discounts on stuff that i dont because of the amount they buy or the position they hold. I wouldnt expect to get the same discount at the supermarket as the staff that work there . . .

I am more than happy to bulk buy, I am talking about a breeders discount. For instance, Batleys, I would like to shop their for my pet food (discounts) but I can't but could if I were a breeder.

I get a discount because I have a shop - my friend gets a discount because she is a licensed breeder. If the gp got a discount where would my business be?
