Yes, Ozzy had it. It took lots of Aludex baths (they stink but are worth it) and it eventually cleared up.

I mention it in this thread here (post 7)...

Thanks guys, Hevvur that was really interesting, but poor Teagan!
Thankfully my two don't have it, but I was wondering if people knew if parents of dogs that have it should be bred from again?

I think I have read that the the parents shouldn't be breed from if puppys have it but not sure when its adult dogs.

My lurcher suffers from demodex he has to have advocate every 4 weeks and even then sometimes he still has patches of hairloss. his face still has bald patches on it. He has been on the advocate for a couple of years now and has flair ups now and then.

Advocate Should Clear it up. A supressed Immune system lets it Develop, So treat that rather than the demodex, Also ive found Salmon oil Really helps. (in Food not on skin)

We've had hundreds of dogs and puppies come through our rescue with Demodex, infact almost all of them have it. it's gone within weeks and never flares up again. But treat the immune system deficiency, not the bug. All those harsh baths and chemicals are very hard on the dog, and completely unnecessary, and unheard of in Canada. THe most that a vet will prescribe is Ivermectin, Advantage, or the like, and a high quality diet.

If demodex is produced in a litter then no, its recommended neither parent is bred from again. All dogs are born with demodex, they inherit it, it only comes to light when a dogs immune system is suppressed, for this reason its not advisable to breed from either parent (or pup) again. Dogs that develop demodex are likely to have relapses throughout their lives in times of stress or illness.
