my poor little man has swine flu (threads merged @ post 37 + update @ 44)

Noah has swine flu he started to feel ill yesterday witha cough and a sneeze, this morning his temperature has risen 3degrees. we went to get the tamiflu, i gave him a capsule emptied into yoghurt so he would take it, which he did. Then half an hour after taking the tablet he was violently sick- absolutely loads!.

he is just in his nappy now, but has sweat literally pouring down his face, is struggling to stay awake even though he has slept loads and is just laid on the settee and wont move unless i pick him up.
He also has heavy, strained breathing and a really bad chest cough that is painful just to listen to.

All this and he doesnt yet talk now, he finds things frustrating in general day to day life, never mind while he is ill and unable to tell me what he wants.

hes only 2
i feel so helpless

Is his temp coming down at all? i assume you are double dosing Calpol and Nurofen and doing all the sponging etc?

It is horrible when they are ill and can't talk to you. i remember my eldest having a sky high temp when she was about that age!

yes, hes having the maximum dose of calpol and im also sponging him- it just isnt helping as yet, his temp has climbed by 1.5 degrees since last time i took it.
its so horrible as he is so drowsy, almost floppy and his eyes a rolling but i guess it will pass.

You can give Nurofen (kids) at the same time as it does not contain paracetomol. If you stagger the start times i.e 2 hours apart it is the fastest way to bring a temp down.

the pharmacist will be able to advise....
