Our lovely morning walk today

Went out early 7.30 on our usual walk and met a lady with a 14 week old cavie and Zena was sooooo gentle with it trying to play but it was on a lead so we moved on. Then I met a lady with a siberian husky, beautiful pure white with amazing blue eyes, very young about a year old I think, and also a jr, so I asked her if they were friendly, she said they were, so I carried on without leads and Zena started playing with it with the jr jumping up and nipping at their backsides Then Zena got scared coz it was interested in her rear end, so she came running back to mummy, but went off again as soon as he left her bits alone Then from up the rear came a big ESP who also wanted to play and he was nice, so he joined in our walk with an old goldie who Georgie liked but it kept growing at him for some reason, probably coz it was old and cantankerous! Then we had 2 black labs, so we all walked together with the dogs running around in the long grass, all getting on, all playing together, no grumpiness, no fighting, it was a pleasure to walk with them all! Makes a change doesn't it, and it did Zena the world of good to have some company apart from old Georgie on our morning walk

Then when I got back to the car-park I was chatting to a lady with a young jack russell, and she said everybody was talking about me because of the way my german shepherds are sooooo obedient, they always come straight to me when I call them to be put on their leads I never let them hurf over and frighten their dogs, blah, blah, blah, so how nice is that then!!!!

Just thought I'd throw a bit of "positive" into our daily dog walks, coz sometimes, it's not good is it! I have soooo many people I've been warned about that I have to be always on the lookout for, but to meet such lovely people, with lovely dogs and actually ENJOY walking with them made a really nice change instead of having to avoid them!

That is lovely H - and soooo nice when all that socialising, training, hard work, patience and love comes together ... AND people comment on it. Magic

And Misty-pup ... you are welcome to come on any of the walks we organise I know you can't drive, but do you have any good walks local to you where we could come to you?

That must have so nice seeing them all running around and enjoying sniffing all the trails. Our Rianna would play with them but sadly not Baruska = don't know why it's in her genes she has to be the boss and only rarely plays with other dogs - sometimes I really feel sorry for Rianna.

Very positive - well done.

I do think it's funny, though, that you think 7.30 is "early", Aitch.....

I envy you babe, I would love to go on walks like that with Sasha but because she has tasted some freedom ie. run off after a rabbit and now won't come back . . . ggrrrrr !!!! . . I have to keep her on lead except for enclosed parks, she is fantastic with other dogs, not aggressive at all but I must admit she doesn't like other dogs sniffing her bits either . . . . . . !!!

I'm glad you are getting soooo much positive feed back babe . . . x x x x x x x

Its lovely when you get a walk like that. I love it when I meet up sometimes with the Neigbours who Ollie gets on with their dogs and they all have a little play then just meander about sniffing and having a good time.

Thanks Kirsty, it did make me feel good watching them playing and running together, no rough stuff, and as you say, all that socialisation has really paid off, and that one encounter with an aggressive staffie hasn't done any damage from what I can see with Zena

Thanks Berger, I wish it would happen more often, but I rarely meet anyone up there, but to have all of those in one go to walk with was fantastic for Zena Georgie just did his plodding along beside me with his nose firmly fixed on that old goldie in front!

I bet you do H, but at least they have each other hey. Surely they both run around together when on your lovely walks in the forests? I hope so anyways.

Lol! It's early enough Vicki when you don't really have to be out at that time! I used to have to be a 5.30/6.00 am. but now I can have a lie in till 6 coz I don't work!

Thanks Elaine, she really was a good girl, it must have been quite frightening to have that very boistrous husky chasing her around, her tail was really tucked underneath her when she came running back to me, but she soon started playing with him xxxx

I've had that myself, but not through a dog not coming back, but because she was aggressive, and that's why I was adamant that Zena would stay as friendly as she was the day I got her, which I'm happy to say she still is! xxxx

It really was a nice change Lynn, from having to stop and put their leads on for fear of Zena getting attacked, coz being the age she is, I really do have to watch out on her behalf, I don't think she understands yet that not all dogs are friendly. When she's older, she's gonna have to find out for herself if ever we meet up with one, I can't cotton wool her forever, but I can sure keep her out of trouble if possible.

This morning a friend was waiting for me with her little 4 month old whippetX coz he adores Zena and they run around like mad together, so I put away Zena's ball, and for the entire walk those two just ran, and ran and ran, especially in that long grass, although the seeds are coming off now, so I've got to be careful about those crazy Zena ears haven't I! She must be totally knackered now, but no, as soon as we get home, she wants to go out in that garden They didn't stop running for the entire half an hour's walk either! He was always up front zig zagging this way and that, and Zena copied him from behind, and when he stopped, she was so very careful not to tumble him or tread on him, so it's all good for her training to know how to play properly instead of playing rough all the time with old Georgieboy just coz he puts up with it!

Long may this positive experience last, there ARE some very nice people with some very friendly dogs out there thank goodness!!!
