Dog has dirty ears

I have just spent the last 5 mins rolling around the floor with Chester trying to get the drops in his ear, its all manky again would it be ear mites... this has gone on for a while now and the drops don't seem to be doing squat.

Trying to pin that ****** down is hard a hell, he only weighs 73lb which is only about 5 1/2 stone (I think)... was easier with our old bullmastiff and she was 126lb + but she didn't have as much muscle.

I'm now covered in hairs from wrestling with the little sod, not sure what I'm going to look like when it comes to bathing him over the weekend. I can only imagine (Turner & Hooch) springs to my mind

Hi Kirsty.. it could be ear mites, they tend to cause a brownish discharge and musty smell ..has Chester been checked by the vet ? Maybe you need different ear drops

Prop him between your knees and stroke him then pop the drops in

Managed it finally

Can I buy stuff over the counter or would I need to take him to the vet?

Better to visit the vet incase it is something requiring more than just drops,

I've got the same prob with Bronson, vet couldn't tell if it was ear mites as he wouldn't stay still long enough for her but I'm thought it was as the gunk was dark...that ear has nearly cleared up but now his other ear is going the same way.
I've had a right task putting his drops in too, at 4 mths he's 19kg and very wiggly and grumpy at the moment as he's teething so he's also very nippy but I've been using distraction by putting his fav toy in his mouth and putting him inbetween my legs. However, chomping on my arm seems to work the best...

The drops I have came from the vet, but he hasn't been for a while... just looked at the date on the bottle 17/09/2003 it hasn't got an out of date thing on it. So it still might be ok as its only ear cleaner

I'll ring the vet tomorrow I think
