Not a good morning

Went to sheepdog training this morning. The usual trainer was away and her husband took it today. He got the wrong sheep out and they would not come near me and refused to flock together so Polo just ended up randomly chasing sheep around, out of control.

Next someone shouted to me that my dog was down. He had gone behind a tree to fetch the sheep and wacked his leg hard on a branch. Anyway he seems ok now.

Time for tea and Polo decides to put his front feet up on the hurdles to get a better view of the sheep and got his paw stuck. He started yelping and wailing. OH grabbed him to keep him still and from yanking his paw and injuring it and I dashed over shooing the other dogs out of the way. Leant over Polo and got a bite on my jaw for my troubles. He didn't mean it, he was panicking and I surprised him.

Anyway, all is well. Nobody is injured. It's just one of those days.

Yes, I am hoping it can only improve. I'll pack my first aid kit before I go out again just in case!

You poor thing - you probably wished you'd never gone to training in the first place today. What a shame the 'stand-in' trainer got the wrong sheep out - not ideal at all!!!
It sounds as though Polo had plenty of exercise so a quiet 'chill-out' afternoon sounds as though it should be in order for you. Chocolate cake is a wonderful 'cure all', (apart from weight loss that is ) so maybe you could include some in your first aid kit
Glad Polo wasn't injured and your next training session goes well.

I'm totally baffled by the reference to 'the wrong sheep' can someone explain please!

I know nuffink about this sort of dog work.

Sorry to hear you got a bite. My dog only ever bit me the once and that was when she was in a bit of pain and very frightened and I was trying to cut bandages off her with a large scissors! I did not hold it against her at all.

Taken dogs out to play and got thoroughly soaked and muddy. Now ready to chill with chocolate and tea.

The sheep he got out were a bit wild and too difficult for an inexperienced dog and handler, that is all. His wife knows the sheep better and picks out more suitable ones.

No I don't hold it against Polo for biting me. He was panicking because his paw was stuck and obviously hurting when he tried to free it and I got him unawares. There is not even a bruise to show for the indignity!

On the plus side, one of the experienced students came over to help me with the sheep and I learnt a couple of things from him.

Oh all respect for the farmer's wife - knowing one sheep from another!

Glad you got something positive out of the day anyway!
(I'm not having a GREAT day myself here)

Oh dear, what a day Poor you and poor Polo! A good sit down, a big glass of wine and something smothered in chocolate definitely required! If it's any consolation, Cain was a total git bag at his dog socialisation class today...at that WAS his fault!

Aww, poor you and poor Polo.

We all have our 'off' training days It always makes the next one more successful

You and Polo should definitely snuggle up and chill out tonight nursing his poorly paw.
