Aww I'm so sorry to hear about Lily, Woofer. You have done the right thing for Lily and yourselves although I know how upsetting this is for you In my opinion a lot of JRT's aren't suitable for children. I have seen numerous adverts in papers and most of them say that they aren't suitable to have with young children. Someone I know has a JRT female who she has had since 7 weeks old and it was a lovely friendly dog until recently when it suddenly just went for a lad who was walking past. It was on the lead at the time and this person thought it was good because it was being protective towards her mother. I told her that she had better watch it because if it bites anyone she could be in serious trouble I would say that a lot of terriers can be unpredictable and perhaps it would be better to look for a less fiery breed of dog if you have children.

Thank you foxy, i am sure Lily will be happy where she is placed as long as she has her tennis balls, lol.

I am seriously considering another greyhound, have been looking at some sites, and they have some surprisingly young ones on there.

Sorry to here about Lilly, I think you did the right thing and agree with everyone else the right dog for you is out there somewhere, hope you find him/her soon. In the mean time ((((Big hugs)))) for you and your family it doesnt take long to bond with a new dog and is devastating to have to let them go. I went though a similar circumstance as a child and resented my parents for it at the time but understand now it was best for everyone concerned especially the dog who went to a lovely home in the counrtyside.

she wont - at the end of the day kids are very resilient and it was for her interests even although she wont understand it now.

Dont feel guilty about this woofer as you have defo made the right decision and your daughter will come to terms with it - May I ask what special needs she has? My little bruv has cerebral palsy and always loved the dogs that were in the family and they were all brilliant with him - even when he tugged their hair/ears etc. Bruno loves him cos he always drops food all over the place too !!

I am sure she wont the cicumstances are different from ours in that really they should never have gotten the dog and choose the wrong breed entirely and then couldnt cope with the puppy. In this instance you had no choice and no mother worth her salt would have put their child in danger by keeping her, you definately made the right decision, she will be upset for awhile and you have to try to not take it too personally if she does blame you for a little while. But I have no doubt that you will find the right dog for your family and then she will be so happy to have a dog she can play with and who doesnt bite and snap!

She has dyspraxia, but i can tell you 100% she so loves animals she started horse riding a few months ago and loves it so much, she used to feed Lily that was her job, and lily used to sleep in her room, i think as Gemma finds it difficult to make human friends, she becomes very attached to doggie friends. She was starved of oxygen when been born as she had her cord round her neck with compression, i have been wondering for a while if she may have a mild form of cerebal palsy, she has to see her spcecialist soon so might see if they can check her for this.xxxx

My Brothers friend has dyspraxia too - she loves horses and Giraffes- not that she gets much opportunity to see them !! LOL

My brother loved horseriding too - sadly its now increasingly difficult to get him on to a space in one of the special needs centres as he is now too old for school etc - he is 21 ! so its difficult to get him riding, however isnt it strange how they seem to really react to animals differently

Probably because they arent judged huh !!

Anyway, thanks for sharing that and hope you get a freind for Gemma soon.

Dani

Thanks dani, it's a shame your bro can't go riding i wish you lived near me my friend has stables and i am sure she would be able to sort him out, i think your right about the not being judged, kids can be so cruel.
