Dog just finished season but won't eat

Hi, my dog has just finished her first season** and is now not eating at all. During the season she lost her appetite but did show some interest in food towards the afternoon and evening. Now I can't temp her with anything, not even her treats and she seems listless and doens't want to come out walking. I am getting worried as she is usually so full of energy. Could this be related to her hormones shifting about due to the season and should I continue to be patient. Just offering food and taking it away after 15 mins if not eaten and taking her for shorter walks, or should I be taking her to the vets?

** assuming this as I am new to dogs and it is now 4 weeks since she stopped bleeding

thanks for any advice

I`d pop her in asap for a vet check in case of an infection, personally. I hope it`s nothing serious.

Agree with claire...get her to the vets ASAP, in case of pyometra (an infection, potentially fatal if left untreated).

Many thanks, for the replies. I have just checked out this condition and she has also vomitted a few times, so I'll be taking her to the vets tomorrow.

Will keep you posted

Hi all, thanks for the concern. The vet checked her out and all is well. It is just taking longer than I anticipated for her hormone levels to adjust after her season.

I have a special diet dog food for her which will help to calm her stomach and should stop the vomitting.

So it's now a question of time to let her get back to normal.
Hope it's not too long as I miss her rocket dog performance when chasing after a ball.

thanks for all the advice it made a real difference to me.

So glad it is not anything more serious than hormones. Be aware though that these symptoms will increase with each season so you may need to consider spaying her; alternatives are EPO which can help during this time; speak to your vet.
