I think it was a "spoon" followed by a "hoover" he was in awful pain sometimes lasting 3weeks at a time I think it was off and on for about 9mths all together and the actual procedure only took a couple of minutes and he has had no bother since I think the consultation and procedure lasted less than 20 mins and I think it cost about £300

£300 One minute you cheer me up, then you go and knock me down again lol! Oh great, so they do use those spoons then, I thought a proper ENT man would know all about those! I've had a good hoover inside there 15 years ago coz I went a bit deaf and it was all wet in there, but the guy who hoovered it said it was nice and clean and there was nothing in there We never did find out what it was but it just went away on its own. Back at that time though, I was at work, and I felt something crawl in there, and everybody laughed at me, but I felt it moving around, so maybe it died and it's still in there, but bound up and mummified in wax now lol! Thanks Jeannette.xxx

Good luck with it Helena. I really hope they do something for you. £300. I hope it doesn't cost that much.

Ouch, poor you. That sounds so painful! I do hope the specialist can get it sorted but its so wrong that you've got to pay for it. You should ask for a tax refund!!

Be careful what you wish for H, I know of a lady that had her ears syringed and ended up with bacterial meningitis!

Me ,I love the NHS, after all I'd be dead without it.....

That's the joy of private health, Aitch - the speed at which you're seen.

Hope you get it sorted mate.....

Hello H - Thanks for the update and here's hoping that the private guy can do something. Don't want to comment on the NHS as there's so many things that come into play here but as others have said you'd have thought that being in excruciating pain was higher up the NHS list of priorities I do hope you get it sorted soon.

That's the reason she wouldn't syringe them yesterday - thank God I think!!!! I'm going for the spoon and hoover by a specialist just to be on the save side! Yes, the NHS were sure good to you weren't they, and they have been to me too in the past, but then that was when I was rushed in there by amublance, otherwise, you just go on the back burner like I have this time. Hey ho!

The trouble was H, only the docs knew how much pain I was in, and they all blamed it on blocked sinuses resulting from that awful flu I had (have!) There was nothing they could do they said to me They don't have spoons in their drawers either, coz I already asked that bit and they said they'd never heard of it! I trust this specialist will have a nice little assortment of suitable instruments to get in there and drag it out, oh heaven!!!

I can totally sympathise with you. Ear ache is horrific and it sounds like you have it really bad!

We've had flu all week, mine started Christmas Eve so you can imagine what our Christmas was like. I now have an inner ear thing going on that is making me feel dizzy/sick everytime I move.

Hope it's sorted soon, think the way you've been (not) treated is terrible xx

Now you're going to have to watch that, coz that's how mine started Keep doing the hot steam and breathing it in,it'll make your nose run and make you cough as you lean forward, but it will keep the sinuses clear and save all that rubbish getting into the tubes connected to the ears. I'd hate anybody to go through the pain I was in over Christmas and before. I was getting up at 2 and 4 am to do the hot oil in my ear, the steam inhalation, and I was crying with the pain. It also helped to shove a rolled up tip of a cotton wool pad soaked in boiling water into the ear, it really did relieve the pain (although it scorched my ear sometimes lol!)

If it's any consolation Dave started his the week before Christmas and he says he feels worse today than he did over Christmas! It's a very long drawn out flu this one I'm afraid, you really have to look after yourself as much as possible, you can't just shrug this one off! Good luck with yours, I know how you must be feeling
