My sister lost her battle
On Monday evening my sister passed away with me and my Mum by her side. She fought far harder than any of us realised and her stubbornness and determined nature carried her through.
I will never be able to thank the wonderful nursing staff at the hospice enough. They treated my sister with the utmost respect and dignity keeping her pain free and comfortable.
Although the cancer won in the end, Sarah had the final word. Her beloved best friend Marcus who she protected from so much of her illness, had come to see her and one of my dear friends had also decided to come to see me. I was in the family room next to Sarah's room with my friend when Marcus came out and said he was going to get some biscuits for my Mum. He had literally been gone for a minute when my Mum came out and called me. We held Sarah's hands and stroked her face as she slipped away. She would have wanted us there, no one else.
Minute's after she'd gone Marcus returned. It may sound coincidental but I believe she chose her time.
I'm absolutely lost without her. We became so close these last few months and she let me share her final days when she shut herself away from everyone else.
I'll never meet anyone braver than her. She faced every single obstacle without complaining or moaning. Even towards the end when her quality of life was so low, she never complained.
My wonderful big sister, I love you so much
